The proposed State 2 lies in Terai, locally known as Madhesh. It comprises of 8 districts and is the second largest state by population and the third largest by economy (GDP at Market Price).
Among the 20 districts in Nepal with the highest per capita income, State 2 has only two of those 20 districts, namely Bara and Parsa. Agriculture and forestry, wholesale trade, manufacturing, construction, and real estate are five of its largest sectors that support the economy.
