Help Photojournalist Bikram Rauniyar Replace his Camera Broken by Nepal Police
Monday, September 7, 2015
Photojournalist Bikram Rauniyar was attacked by police personnel while he was covering a clash between police and protestors near Ram Mandir, Janakpur, district headquarters of Dhanusha. Rauniyar is also the secretary of Federation of Nepalese Journalist district committee.
It happened to me while I was returning from Jaleshwor in Mahottari after covering the protest.
I was about to take photos when a group of policemen walked towards me. I tried to enter a shop but a policeman pulled me from behind and hit me with baton. Then they snatched my camera bag and hit me with gun butt… Even after I informed that I am a journalist, they continued hitting me.
The police only left him after the locals started shouting at police for not to beat a journalist, Rauniyar recalled the incident. He sustained bruises all over his body, and his camera was destroyed in the attack.
He said:
They snatched my camera and smashed it on the road breaking into six pieces.
Read his story in Pahilo Post in his own words.
Photojournalist Rauniyar had purchased the camera at the cost of NRs 70,000 (700 US dollar). It took for at least five year for him to save the money for the camera that security personnel broke down.
Model: Canon eos 700d Actual Cost: NRs 70,000 (700 dollar)
