Demonstrators torch NC lawmaker’s contact office, municipality, govt vehicle in Bara
Following the promulgation of the new constitution-2015 on Sept 20, locals and cadres of agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front have intensified their protest across Terai districts. However, the situation remained tense in Bara district on Tuesday.
Agitating cadres vandalized and torched the district office of former law maker Ram Ayodhya Prasad Yadav of Nepal Congress in Kalaiya Municipality-5.
The demonstrators also vandalized and set ablaze Kalaiya Municipality and its vehicle (Ba 1 Ja 4352). Police had clashed with demonstrators when the latter resorted to vandalism in government offices in Kalaiya municipality areas.
To bring the situation under control, police opened fire in the air and lobbed a dozen of tear gas shells, according to Chief District Officer (CDO), Bal Krishna Pathi.
CDO Panthi said that seven security personnel were also injured in the scuffle after the protesters sprinkled acid over them.
Police also thrashed locals entering into their residences, Pramod Gupta, an agitating front leader in Bara. The incident has wreaked havoc among locals, according to Gupta.
Nepal Bar Association Bara Chapter burn copies of constitution
The Bara district chapter of Nepal Bar Association set ablaze copies of Nepal’s new constitution in Kalaiya municipality while its central committee has welcomed the promulgation.
“We will not accept the constitution that deprives Madhesi people from their rights,” said the association’s district president Ramchandra Singh.
NC district chair’s residence torched in Rautahat
Demonstrators have also vandalized the residence of former lawmaker Krishna Prasad Yadav, district chair of Nepali Congress in Garuda municipality in Rautahat district.
