Madhes movement victim women receive Mithila Arts Training
SAPTARI, April 17
Twenty-one women from Saptari district, most of them who lost their husband and other members during recent Madhes Movement, received 15-day-long Mithila handicraft commercial training.
The training that started on April 2, 2016 and ended on April 17, 2016 aimed to empower movement-affected women socially and economically both, according to the organizer.
KOSHISH, an organization that has recently emerged with the recent Madhes movement, organized the training for the women from Bhardah and nearby areas in the district with a view to make them self-reliant through skill development.
The skill development training not only helped the participant women to improve their livelihood, but it also equally contributed to the promotion traditional Mithila arts and culture.
The training cost Rs. 90,000, some of which was gathered by the organizer through crowd funding platform.
Following the training, the trainers promised that Mithila Yain Art Gallery situated at Thamel in Kathmandu will purchase the handicraft materials prepared by the trainees.
Earlier, KOSHISH, which started its first social initiative by proactively providing free treatment to protesters, police and locals who got injured during Madhes movement, had also organized free health camps, and clothes distribution to Dalit community and relief distribution to fire victims in different districts of Terai.
